Dr. Patrick Hsu grew up in Short Hills, New Jersey. He attended Rutgers College and then went on to receive his Master of Science in biochemistry and molecular biology from Albany Medical College in upstate New York. Dr. Hsu then returned back to New Jersey for his M.D. degree at UMDNJ – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. There he excelled as president of his class and graduated with numerous awards and honors (Alpha Omega Alpha).
Following medical school graduation, Dr. Hsu attended the prestigious Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. This surgical training was and still is regarded as one of the most rigorous and well respected programs in the country. He then went on to complete his plastic surgery fellowship at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson.
With a strong interest and compassion for breast cancer patients, Dr. Hsu then dedicated an additional year to a second fellowship in microsurgery at the world-renowned M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. There he trained in all aspects of reconstructive surgery with a heavy focus on advanced techniques in breast reconstruction to include the DIEP and SIEA flaps.
Dr Hsu has formed a very strong reputation as a plastic surgeon due to his breadth of knowledge in a wide array of plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgical procedures.

| Safety and optimizing surgical outcomes are two of Dr. Hsu’s philosophies in achieving consistent and striking results. Common complications in surgery include bleeding, infection and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) which can be life threatening. Dr. Hsu has focused on analyzing outcomes in cosmetic and reconstructive patients in an effort to educate plastic surgeons around the world. He has authored three important chapters in the patient safety issue of Seminars of Plastic Surgery titled “Optimization of Patient Safety in Cosmetic Surgery” on bleeding, infection and most importantly, DVT prevention. | ||

Dr. Hsu continues to educate not only young plastic surgeons but also other physicians as well. He is recently co-author of a text book titled Plastic Surgery Emergencies: Principles and Techniques. This book is a concise guide to the principles and procedures for rapidly evaluating and treating acute care problems in the emergency room setting or during on-call consultations. It instructs the reader in protocols for the full range of common and uncommon problems and is an indispensable resource for clinicians, residents, and trainees in plastic surgery, as well as for emergency room personnel and family practice physicians.
